Do You Have A Beautiful Dog?

By Bill Coughlin

As they say Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and that is very true when it comes to Dogs.

Have you ever went to the Dog Park and just looked at the owners and their Dogs?

Is it just my imagination or do a lot of Dogs look like their owner or is it the Owners look like their Dogs? Think about it.

Grooming your Beautiful Dog at home can save you lots of money, and help you to form a closer relationship with your pet.

Splish Splash lets take a bath!

Bathing your dog is important, but how often depends on his lifestyle. Is your dog outside a lot, or does he prefer the great indoors? Indoor dogs should only require a bath about once a month, unless they get into something stinky or yucky (such as dead animals or mud). A dog that spends time outdoors will get dirty more quickly, and will require more frequent baths. Still, you should restrict bathing to once a week at the most; too much bathing will dry out your dog's skin. After bathing try rubbing some tea tree oil into your dog's coat, it's a great natural deterrent to fleas and ticks.

Snip Clip!

Don't forget to clip your dog's toenails as well. Long or jagged nails can be very painful for your pup, and can leave him vulnerable to all of the bacteria on the ground. To familiarize your dog with nail clippers start using them when he is a puppy, and feel free to give him lots of love and treats during and after the experience. Be careful not to cut the quick, which contains blood and nerves. To avoid this simply cut away from the point where the nail turns pink, or where the nail is hollow underneath (easier to find on dogs with white nails). Also, if your dog has a jagged edge, file it down so as to make him more comfortable.

Brush Me!

Brushing your dog often is important, especially for longer haired breeds. Even for short-coated dogs brushing is important, because it helps remove the loose undercoat, which can be very itchy and irritating. For short-coated breeds use a currycomb or rake to bring up the loose hairs and remove them. You'll be surprised at how much hair comes off of your dog! For longer haired breeds use a brush with metal bristles to untangle mats, and then smooth the coat with a fine bristled brush. Taking care of mats is very important because if left they can trap moisture next to the skin which can lead to hot spots. Brush your dog at least three times a week for a glorious coat.

After you have your Dog all Beautiful you need to take some pictures.

Then you can make your Dog famous with their own web-page. If you will go here you can submit stories and pictures of your Dog for the entire world to see.

Please check it out and see what some other people have submitted.

I think dogs are the most amazing creatures; they give unconditional love. For me they are the role model for being alive. ~Gilda Radner

I think all animals are beautiful -- even the ugly ones.

I am more of a cat person than a dog person, but I used to love to brush my dog almost as much as he loved being brushed. I have not had any pets since childhood but as a kid it was my job to pick the ticks of the family dalmation. They say dalmations can have a tendency to bond closest with just one person in a family and I wad definitely his pet.

I learned a long time ago that bathing dogs can be a traumatic experience for them. It removes their personality and can cause confusion among fellow canines who do not accept that a dog smelling of roses is not a rose bush that needs watering.

Brushing my dogs, because I have never trained them to stand for it, is one of the wildest and most violent games we play. Sometimes I wonder at the care and control my dogs display even while sounding like a pack of rabid wolverines and leaping about all over me!

My dogs will never win any beauty contests but sometimes we do go to dog shows and I swear that they find them as humiliating as I find them exploitative of man's best friend. I notice, especially, that if they ever get to within sniffing distance of the exhibits, they do not seem to react to them as they do to other canines.

Oh, yes, I am owned by two beautiful dogs.

I continue to aspire to someday be the person my dog thinks I am.

We used to have a black lab like the one in the last photo, but I really don't think he looked like me. BUT I do see a little resemblance to my brown-eyed hubby. lol - And of course, both are gorgeous. :)

I've heard it said that it may be best to let a professional trim the nails, as many people don't know what they're doing.
